Located in the high country of Southwest Colorado. Wildlife of all kinds are abundant in the area surrounding Groundhog Lake and great hunting and photo opportunities abound. So whether you come to enjoy the great fishing, the trophy hunting, the tremendous photo opportunities, or choose to just relax and enjoy the magnificent vistas, you will not be disappointed. RV sites and Lakeside tent sites are available. You can choose between electric only or full hookup RV sites. Cabin rentals are also available and pets are always welcome. The new convenience store, liquor store, and shower facilities are open for your convenience. Dump station is available.
Groundhog Lake has long been a favorite spot for local area fisherman. One mile east of here you will enter the 2 million acre San Juan Forest, where boundless wilderness is combined with countless recreational areas. Just north of Groundhog Lake RV Park & Campground lies the Uncompahgre National Forest, an excellent area for big game hunting. In fact, dozens of state records have been set for elk, mule deer, and wild turkey in the area surrounding Groundhog Lake! The area also boasts excellent trails and off road opportunities for ATVing and dirt biking. Hovenweep National Monument offer 5 prehistoric, Puebloan-era villages most of the structures were built from 1200 - 1300 AD. The Square Tower Group trail is a two-mile loop that takes about 1.5 hours to hike. Canyon of the Ancients National Monument was home to the Anasazi people as early at 7500 B.C. For the past 8500 years, the Ancestral Puebloans, nomadic Ute and Navajo tribes have moved in and out of the region. Be sure to stop at the Anasazi Heritage Center in Dolores. Here you can learn more about the ancient people who once inhabited the land. Sites are available from May 15th through November 15th. For long term stays, call for special rates!
